Frances Jessome born on July 30, 1928, of Gardner Mines, N.S., passed away on Aug. 22, 2013. at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sebina Marsh of Mill Creek, N.S.
Frances was born in Mill Creek and lived the majority of her life in beautiful Point Aconi. Frances was the youngest girl of 16 children. She married her first husband, Bernard Beaton (deceased) in 1945 and her second husband Leo Francis Jessome (deceased) in 1961. She has a total of five children, Kevin Beaton (Helen) of Mill Creek, Richard Beaton (deceased) (Laura)of Mill Creek, John Beaton (Maria) of Stoney Creek, Ont., Francine Bona (Brian) of Gardner Mines and an infant son who died at birth. She is survived by her sister, Josephine Campbell, Mill Creek.
Frances adored all of her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Tanya Bagshaw, Alberta, Danielle Francis, Ontario, Aimee Bachman, Massachusetts, Dawn-Michelle Timms, Ontario, Joanie MacRae, Point Aconi, Monique Boutilier, Ontario and Sonia Vukelich, Ontario. Her great-grandchildren are Rialy, Laura-Lynn, Marget Joan, Ryan, Madison, Gavin, Ella, Brennan, Noah, Emilia, Lucas, Lily, Abigail (deceased) and the newest great-grandchild Reagan and a baby boy to be born in January.
Frances was predeceased by her brothers, Clarence, Ignatious 'Buddy', Melvin, Leo, Pat, and Garfield Marsh. Also, her sisters, Hazel Campbell, Viola Campbell and Dorothy Quinn.
Frances will be remembered for many things but one that sticks out was her baking! Nan loved to bake and share her goodies with everyone. From carrot cake, bread, and fried dough to apple and lemon pies, fruit cake, chocolate cake with boiled icing and scones. Delicious, yummy treats always devoured and never any leftovers. Thankfully she shared her recipes with her family and each time one of these are made by one of us she will be remembered and thought of.
Frances will be remembered as being a simple woman but very active, always working in the yard, painting, and staying busy. She appreciated an orderly and clean house which has rubbed off on her granddaughters! She owned a Siberian husky for a number of years, Yukon, who surprisingly she adored! Frances was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Bras d'Or, N.S. She prayed every morning and St. Anne was her patron saint. We will miss her prayers for us.
She adored all of her granddaughter's husbands and would remind us all of how wonderful they were and how lucky we were. She was reminded jokingly that they were lucky too and that would make her laugh. Only one granddaughter lives in Cape Breton and whenever some of them came home to visit, it was a must to bring with them her two favourite things: a Tim Hortons coffee and some scratch tickets. For fun, Frances frequented the casino. She would play the slot machines and be tickled pink coming home with her winnings. Our Nan was a tart lady with strength, stubbornness and loyalty. She was loved and respected by her family and Cape Breton will never be the same for us.
Visitation for Frances will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Cremation to follow. A funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Rev. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
