BURNS- Stella Burns of Vanguard, SK, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at the age of 88 years. Stella was born on a farm near St. Boswell, SK on November 18, 1924, the only child of Fred and Lydia Gohl. After attending Emery School, Stella married Lawrence Burns on December 2, 1942, and they moved into the town of Vanguard. Her and Lawrence farmed and were blessed with three sons, Robert, Lyle and James. Her favorite family times were the trips taken to Ontario, Medicine Hat and British Columbia. Stella was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the United Church women’s group. She loved to cook and bake, making wonderful breads, pies and cookies. The windows of her home were filled with her favorite violets and every colour of geranium. She enjoyed a quiet evening in the veranda, tea with the ladies and looked forward to every morning coffee with Bob and Lyle. Stella will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence in 1969; parents Fred and Lydia Gohl; daughter-in-law Doreen Burns. Survived by her sons Bob (Doris), Lyle, Jim (Irene); grandchildren Bonnie (Kevin), Carolyn, Darcy (Colleen), Michael (Mimi), Heather, Melissa (Tyler), Megan, Sarah; 12 great grandchildren; special niece Jessie (nee Burns) Senn and cousin Hazel Landsiedel. Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, August 17, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Vanguard Health Centre, Vanguard, SK, with Sam Hawkins officiant. The eulogy was shared by Michael Burns. Special tribune to Great Grandma Stella by Emma Karlson. Urn bearer was Bonnie Burns. Private family interment took place at the Vanguard Cemetery, Vanguard, SK.
