It is with great sadness and a life time of memories that the family of Lionel Churchill announce his sudden death at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, Nova Scotia on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at the age of 65. Born in St. John’s, N.L., on May 16, 1948, he was a son of the late Leslie and Louise Churchill. He is survived by his soulmate and best friend, wife of 41 years, Jane (Caul); devoted son, Damien (Maegan), Labrador City; two brothers, Matt (Lorraine) and Spencer; two sisters, Allison and Leslie Lou (Al); mother-in-law, Rose and her husband, Barry McCann; sisters-in-law, Maureen (Paul), Charlotte (Paul) and Sharon (Marlon); brothers-in-law, Philip and Michael; a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends; cherished grand-nieces, Madison, Alexis and Isabella. He was predeceased by sister, Sandra; infant brother, Harold; sister-in-law, Rosalind; father-in-law, Philip Caul Sr. Church or Liney, as he was also affectionately known by his brothers and sisters was a kind and gentle soul who believed in treating everyone fairly. He will be remembered for his amazing smile and quick wit. There were no strangers, just people he hadn’t met yet. His passion was his family and he loved being the photographer for family functions. He was an avid golfer, curler and enjoyed his two new-found activities, bowling and darts. He loved music and was the go-to computer and electronics guy. He was also a staunch supporter of his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. Church spent 37 years in Labrador City, N.L., working in the mining industry. He was awarded the Town of Labrador City Builders Award for his many years of volunteering and as a member of the Kinsman Club in Labrador City. He was awarded the Honour of Life Membership in the Kinsman Association. In 2010 he retired to New Minas, N.S. He was a loving husband, devoted father, soon to be grandfather and loyal friend. The family wishes to thank the Medical “A” staff at the Valley Regional Hospital for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2013, Father John MacPherson and Reverend Doctor Randy Crozsman officiating. Interment will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. Flowers are accepted and donations in memory may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation.
