Douglas Gordon Nelson

Nelson, Douglas Gordon "Doug" - 75, Truro, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013, at home after a very short illness. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Douglas Christian Nelson. Doug was a truck driver for many years having worked for numerous companies with his latest being Connors Transport. Doug established and organized the annual Truckers Bowling Tournament in support of the IWK. His family was the love of Doug’s life. He was very active in bowling and also enjoyed crib games, golf and horse racing. He enjoyed his many years on the road, often looking for a game of crib where he stopped or just to meet people and chat. He never forgot a face. He will be missed by his feline friends, especially Willow.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Isabelle Robertson; children, S. Dean Robertson (Rose), Truro; Gordon Nelson (Pauline), Miramichi, NB, Dale Nelson (Rhonda), Pincher Creek, AB; John Nelson (Sarah), Truro; Terry Nelson, Truro, Jim Nelson (Audra), Truro, Laura Armstrong (Laurie), Truro; Walter Nelson, Truro, Peggy Nelson, Sackville, NS; nineteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Edith Dean (James), Truro; several nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law, Pattie Kilpatrick-Nelson of Saint John, NB.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa in infancy; brother, Allison.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where visitation will take place 2-4, 7-9 p.m., Wednesday September 4, 2013, and where the funeral service will be held 3 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2013, Captain Stephen McNeilly officiating. All are welcome to join a family gathering following the service at the Truro Fire Brigade, 165 Victoria Street, Truro. No flowers by family request. Donations in Doug’s memory may be made to the I.
