Barbara Crain
CRAIN, BARBARA ANN - Upon reading this you will know Barb has passed away and has gone to that better place called Heaven where she is reunited with her son, Christopher, and her father, Arthur. Barb passed away at Bobby’s Hospice on September 2, 2013 after a very courageous battle with cancer. Barb did not tip-toe through life. She fought the cancer with courage, humor and dignity. Barbara was the youngest child of Arthur and Marie (Rackley) Whitaker. Her formative years were spent on Ritchie Street in the “Valley” where she developed many life- long friends, her Rock Street/City Road Gang. Barb is survived by her loving husband, Patrick Crain; her much adored daughter, Sarah Green who she was so very proud of and who stayed by her Mother’s side at Bobby’s Hospice, Peter Crain, Jamie Crain, her beloved Mama, Marie, her sister Donna (Dave) Goss, brothers Ronnie (Carol) and Gordie (Joan). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and her former husband, Lorne Green (Marjorie). Barb was predeceased by her son Christopher (November 24, 1989) and her father, Arthur Whitaker (June 2001). In 1966 Barb graduated from Saint John Vocational School. Her caring and compassionate nature led to obtaining her RNA certification. Barb worked in nursing at the Red Cross, SJRH, the DVA and twenty years at Ridgewood Veterans Hospital. Barb enjoyed her 40 plus years as an LPN, a profession she was so well suited. Barb loved doing crafts and selling her treasures at the craft shows. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Grand Bay-Westfield Gardening Club. Anything she created came out beautifully, a woman of many talents. Barb was truly a “people person.” She was an avid shopper, loved to travel with friends, a former member of TOPS and a current member of the Razzle Dazzle Red Hatters. Barb loved people and she always told folks to be kind to one another, to care for one another. Barb had great faith and belonged to the Christian Fellowship Church, Quispamsis, NB. She loved her church family. Sarah Green, Barb’s daughter, would like to thank Barb’s very close friends, Nancy King, Sandra Langlais, Nicole Haynes, the rest of the Rock St./City Road Gang and her family for taking such wonderful care of her mother since her diagnosis of her illness in March 2013.
Funeral arrangements will be by Fundy Funeral Home on Westmorland Road with visiting hours from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on Thursday, September 5. The service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held at Christian Fellowship Church, 25 Chamberlain Road, Quispamsis on Friday, September 6 at 1:00 P.M. followed by an interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the staff of Bobby’s Hospice and Dr. Chris O’Brien for their excellent care and compassion during Barb’s stay. In lieu of followers, the family would appreciate a donation to Bobby’s Hospice.
