
Luanna Winchester
WINCHESTER, (HANRAHAN) LUANNA BETTY - 1954 - 2013 - It is with grieving hearts that the family announce the passing of Luanna Winchester of Darlings Island. After a long and courageous battle with cancer on September 7th, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital with her family at her side. Born Harvey Station in January of 1954, she was the wife of Donald Winchester and the daughter of the late Milton Moffitt and Blanche (Little) Moffitt of Harvey Station. She will be deeply missed by her children Michael Hanrahan (Heather) of Edmonton, AB, Sarah Hanrahan of Saint John, step-son Adam Winchester (Sabrina) of Spencerville, ON and step-daughter Amy Winchester (Joey) of Saint John; her beautiful grandchildren Abigail Hanrahan and Walker and Heidi Winchester; siblings Martin Moffitt (Peggy) of Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, Susan Boucher (Kevin) of Hanwell, Cathy Davenport (David) of Hampton, Sidney Moffitt (Edie) of Utopia, ON and Darlene Nason (Paul) of Harvey; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her father, Lu was predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law Lea and Remelda Winchester. Lu was a Registered Nurse and began her career in the Neonatal Unit at The General Hospital, later working at the Saint John Regional Hospital in the Labour and Delivery. Devoting 39 years to nursing, a job she felt was rewarding and satisfying in delivering the gift of life. Lu and Donnie had a large circle of devoted friends, which they enjoyed spending time who were like their chosen family. She enjoyed get-togethers at home in Harvey and swimming with her sisters who were her best friends. Lu had many talents which she loved including tole painting, gardening, pickling, baking and crafts. She was a member of the Fundy Gardeners and a group of good friends that call themselves the “Camper Girls” She also enjoyed many walks with her canine companion Libby. The family wishes to express the appreciation for the generous and wonderful support from family and friends during this difficult time and especially to Dr. Burnell, Dr. O’Brien, Oncology and Palliative Care Staff for the excellent care that was provided to Lu.
Arrangements are under the care of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation to be held on Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial service will be held from St. Mary- St. Bartholomew’s Church 646 Westmorland Road on Thursday September 12th at 2:00 p.m. Interment to take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery followed by a reception at the church hall.
