NEW GLASGOW – Rita MacIsaac-Cameron, 1920-2013, of New Glasgow, passed away Friday, September 13, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Joseph and Anne Mary (Power) Coughlin.
After her father’s death in 1925, leaving 10 children, she went to live with Mr. and Mrs. Dan Gordon of James River, Antigonish Co., where she attended the one roomed school. After time spent in the USA, she returned home in 1942 and she and Alex MacIsaac of Judique were married and moved to New Glasgow. Rita continued her education at Maritime Business College, New Glasgow, Success Business School, Truro and two semesters of Correspondence (Dean List). She had a career in accounting and office management which lasted 31 years, finally retiring after 11 years with a law firm, M.P.W.M. and S.
Alex predeceased her in 1980. In 1990 she and A. Raymond Cameron of Antigonish were married in a Highland Wedding at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church. Raymond predeceased her in 2006.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist CWL. She was a life member of Clan Donald, USA; life member and former commissioner Clan Donald, NS; member Pictou County Branch, Clan Donald; member and former director Clan Cameron; member Liberal Party of Canada.
She is survived by a half brother Donald Davis, Ontario; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, foster parents, six sisters and three brothers.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral mass 11 a.m. Friday in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Donald Boudreau officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Assoc. or a charity of choice.
