Passed on: September 13th, 2013

Kenneth Rowland Hill - 93 years, of Wolfville, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2013 at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with his children at his side. He was predeceased by Maxine (nee Illsley) his wife of 64 years and his sister, Sinah. Born in Newcastle-on-Tyne, England, the son of Rowland William Hill and Florence Roberts of England and Wales, he will be dearly missed by his children, Pamela (and husband Jeff) and Peter (and wife Rhonda), grandchildren, Jason, Ryan (Calgary), Allyson (Kingston) and Robert (Montreal), and nieces and nephew, Judith, Penny, Sarah, Alastair and their families, and close friends the Gill-Carey family, all residing in England. Kenneth served in both the British and Canadian Merchant Navies during the Second World War and survived three torpedo hits. After the war, he captained vessels to many places around the world, including the Minas Basin. Ashore, he enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a CBC Radio executive in St. John's, Halifax and Sydney. He was an active Rotary Club member for decades. Wolfville was his retirement home since 1985, where he gardened, bird watched, lawn bowled and enjoyed theatre, musicals, reading, following world events, his dogs, having a pint with good neighbours and friends, going places and seeing things across the province, such as Hall's Harbour, farmer's market, Cabot Trail and holding lobster feasts with family and friends during summertime. He loved his family deeply and cherished our times together. We are proud of the life he lived and are inspired by his independence, British wit, caring and gentle, self-effacing character. Cremation and a private family service at the Berwick Cemetery have taken place. Donations may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation. Heartfelt thanks to the Valley Regional Hospital medical team for your compassionate care. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
