Bertha E. Kinnear, age 68, of Amherst, and formerly of West Brook, ended her 10 month battle with cancer peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Parrsboro, she was a daughter of the late Morton and Norma (Yorke) Pettigrew. Bertha worked several jobs throughout her life including many years with Family and Children Services in Amherst, a profession she did with great pride. Bertha enjoyed animals, knitting, cooking, Bingo and spending time with friends and family. She was deeply devoted to her family and friends, and will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
She leaves behind her husband, Delbert, Amherst (formerly, West Brook); daughters, Sarah Meldrum (Greg Smith), Amherst; Brenda Jeffers (Tim), Amherst; sons, Michael Meldrum (Stephanie), West Brook; Timothy Meldrum, Hannah, Alberta; a sister, Alice Woodington (David), Kensington, PEI; brothers, Donald Pettigrew (Lillian), Stratford, PEI; Lewis Yorke (Eloise), Parrsboro; grandchildren, Jason MacAloney (Stephanie), Christopher Pettigrew, Tiffany Munro (Travis), Beth Adams (Kirk), Tarah Jo Selig (Matt), Tyler Meldrum, Wyatt Meldrum; great grandchildren, Cole, Logan, Ayden; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Victor Meldrum; a sister, Sarah Ann in infancy.
The family would like to thank Dr. Harb and staff of the Moncton City Hospital, Oncology Dept. Also, nurses and staff of the I.C.U., 2nd floor maternity, 1st floor medical, ambulatory care and Dr. Short and the Palliative Care Team of the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Special thanks to Shareen Breen, and all the V.O.N. nurses who provided home care during Bertha’s time of need.
Visitation 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2013, Rev. Don Miller and Rev. Carolyn MacLeod officiating. Reception to follow in the vestry of Parrsboro Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
