CRAIN, BASIL ERNEST - Basil E. Crain of Nackawic, NB departed this life on September 21, 2013 at his home after a lengthy illness. Born at Rosine, Car. Co., NB on April 3, 1929 to the late Leslie and Alice (Wright) Crain. Basil is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maisie (Monteith) Crain; two daughters, Linda Cronkhite (Gerry) and Cathie Mean (Vernon), both of Northampton, NB; one son, Danny Crain (Christine), Kings Landing, NB; seven grandchildren, Joseph Cronkhite (Erin), Jason Cronkhite (Stacey), Sara-Lynn Williams (David), Christy Crain, Jillian Crain, Naomi Tenhave, (Shawn) and Natasha Mean (Kevin); nine great grandchildren, Rachel, Jacob, Damien, Emma, Tylan, Aimee-Lee, Zachary, Anna and Matthew; a sister, Phyllis Crain, Eli, Manitoba; four brothers, Perley Crain, Fredericton, NB, Clifford Crain, North West Territories, Paul Crain (Louise), Norton, NB and Frank Crain (Gail), Dumfries, NB; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Crain, Dumfries, NB; a brother-in-law, DeVerne Cronkhite, Tracy, NB; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Earl, Lee and Jack; four sisters, Thelma, Edith, Gertude and Hazel. After finishing school in Dumfries, Basil went to British Columbia and worked in lumber camps. He then joined the army, Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry, as a Paratrooper. Later he joined the Canadian Electrical Engineers, serving time in Korea and the Middle East. He worked a number of years at St. Anne Pulp Mill, and after an early retirement, he owned and operated Crain’s Antique Shop in Nackawic, NB until he suffered a stroke. Basil was affiliated with the Temperance Vale United Pentecostal Church.
Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Terry Brewer officiating. A reception will follow at the funeral home, followed by interment at the Lenentine Cemetery.
