
Phyllis Hamlyn
HAMLYN, PHYLLIS - Phyllis Hamlyn passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013. Born in Long Pond, NFLD on September 25th, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Chesley and Eugenia (Hiscock) Saunders. Phyllis was a tireless volunteer at The Moncton Hospital Palliative Care Unit and a dedicated member and volunteer at St. George’s Anglican Church. She sang in the Greater Moncton Chorale, loved to dance, and had a great passion for travel throughout the world. Phyllis was always there for her friends and her family. She loved to spend her summers on the beach in Shediac. With her great sense of humor and adventure, Phyllis will always be remembered as one who embraced and enjoyed life to the fullest. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Jackson (Ross) of Moncton, and their children Christopher (Allyson Teed) and Craig (Marla Black), son Paul Hamlyn (Gisele) of Calgary, AB, and their children Jason and Jennifer Altena (Steve), as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless friends. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Charles, and brothers Gordon and Wilfred.
At Phyllis’ request there will be no visitation. A service in Phyllis’ memory will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 9th, at St. Georges Anglican Church, 51 Church Street Moncton, with The Reverend Chris VanBuskirk presiding. A reception will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. George’s Anglican Church, The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society. The family would like to thank all the friends and relatives who provided comfort and care during her final journey. A special thanks to the doctors and nurses in The Moncton Hospital Palliative Care Unit who were so important to her.
