Patricia Joyce MacLeod
It is with profound sadness that the family of Patricia Joyce MacLeod, age 65, of Truro, announce her passing on October 3, 2013 at home, after a very brief struggle with cancer. Born in Truro on June 30, 1948, she was the daughter of Dalmar and Eileen Lynds. Pat graduated high school from Central Colchester High and then went on to complete her legal secretary training through the commercial course. Pat's career began in the role of Deputy Registrar with the County Courthouse in Truro until she later moved on to Patterson Smith Matthews & Grant. Pat took several years off from her work life to stay at home and care for her children. She later returned to work in an administrative position with CN Rail. Pat also volunteered many hours of her time in various roles but was most active with the Lower Onslow United Church as an elder, a volunteer on numerous committees and as a lifetime member of the UCW. Pat touched the hearts of many she worked and volunteered with and developed many close friendships as a result. Pat was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and niece and will be sadly missed by her husband of 46 years, Leland; son, Travis (Debi); daughter, Heidi (Shawn); grandchildren, Darin, Ben, Ila Elizabeth; sisters, Barbara (Carson), Darlene (Robert), Selina (Andreas); brothers Jim (Rose), David; aunt, Joyce; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Dalmar, a son and daughter in infancy, and many close friends. Pat will be fondly remembered for her beautiful smile, wonderful sense of humour and her gift of caring for others. Pat's greatest pleasures were spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren, laughing with family and friends, summers at the cottage and baking. She was a voracious reader, avid bridge player and had a natural talent for writing poetry. Pat had many, many close friends and treasured those friendships dearly with loyalty and love. In keeping with Pat's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private celebration of life will be held for close friends and family. In honour of Pat's love for animals, donations can be made to the SPCA or to dyingwithdignity.ca as she believed strongly in the need to expand end of life choices. The family would like to express their thanks to the VON nurses and the CEHHA Palliative Care service for their care and support during a very difficult time. Arrangements entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro. On-line condolences may be made at www.ColchesterCommunity.com
