Passed in: Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: October 6th, 2013

Donald “Francis” MacEachern, born November 2, 1946, in Antigonish, NS.
Francis passed away at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, on October 6, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Francis faced his battle with the quiet strength and determination he faced every challenge in his life, always putting others first, whether it be his loved ones or strangers who needed a hand up when down. Dad’s last words to his family showed how he lived his life. “Don’t worry about me; I’ll be fine, take care of yourselves.”
Francis was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Elizabeth (nee MacDonald) MacEachern and a special father-in-law, Edward Vacheresse.
Francis is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol (nee Vacheresse), sons Paul (Lindsey), Bridgewater; Shawn, Halifax; daughter Lisa (Darrell) Aikens, Stellarton; mother-in-law Kathleen Vacheresse, Thorburn; brothers: Jay (Terry), Blaise, John, BC; Eddie (Debbie), Hardwood Hill; Peter (Kathy), McAras Brook; Leonard (Nancy), Antigonish; sisters: Cathy (Lewie), Antigonish; Bernadette (Bob) Miners, BC; Mary (Jim) Hadley, Mulgrave; Lorraine (Joe) Bouchie, Antigonish; aunt Tela Chisholm, New Glasgow; beloved grandchildren: Amanda (Allan), Chelsea (Justin), Justin (Kelsey), Alicia, Makara, Michaela, Rowyn, Rowan and Kohl; great-grandchildren Marlee and Max.
Dad was well known throughout the county, having been owner of MacEachern’s Shell and working at several garages for years. Dad also drove truck for many years throughout the Maritimes. He was last employed with Esso as a delivery man.
If a man’s worth is determined by how many lives he has touched, then our dad was the richest man in the world. He had so many close and wonderful friends we called his “Garage Family”. Dad was never happier than when at “the barn” laying under cars, firing off a few choice expletives and having a Tim’s coffee with his buddies.
“It is so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone”.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Cremation will follow.
Family flowers only. Donations can be made in Francis’ name to the Canadian Lung Cancer Society or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
