It is with great sadness that the family announce the peaceful passing of our mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Elizabeth 'Lizzie' MacDonald, 91, on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Born on Tobin Road, North Sydney, Aug. 20, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Nelly (Downey) Reid of North Sydney.
She was a loving, caring and gentle soul who always took care of everyone. She enjoyed spending her time sewing, knitting, working out in her garden planting many of her favourite flowers, cooking and baking. She loved her family more than anything and always made sure they knew it.
She is survived by her sons, Edward Jr., North Sydney, Stephen (Betty), Mississauga, Ont., Ronald (Sherry), Sydney Mines, Bill 'Little Billy' (Vicki), who she loved as her son and granddaughter, Lyne (Gary), who she cherished as her daughter. She is also survived by her brother Hepburn Reid of Sydney Mines.
As well, she is survived by her 16 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Richard, Donnie, Colin, Stewart, Brian, Wendell, Stephen, Michelle, Sherrylynn, Renee, Rhonda, Madison, Billy, Lyne, Kara, her 15 great-grandchildren, Craig, Scott, Donald, Nyssa Lin, Nathan, Amanda, Amy, Allison, Alicia, Jeffery, Emily, Kyle, Joseph, Kaitlin and Andrew, as well as her dear friends, Carolyn and Mary and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, best friend and the love of her life, Edward MacDonald, sons, Donald, Billy and two sons in infancy, sisters, Sarah, Kate, Maggie, Charlotte, Nina, Nelly and Jeannie and a brother, Robert.
Many thanks are extended to Dr. John Kirkpatrick, the doctors, nurses and staff of the third floor, New Waterford Consolidated Hospital who made our mother comfortable. We cannot thank you enough.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O’Neill, officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.
