Shirley Pauline Walsh
It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Walsh, 80, Collingwood, on Saturday October 19, 2013 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst.
Born in Springhill, she was the eldest daughter of the late Arthur and Grace (Fountain) Simons. Shirley was a loving wife and wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed quilting, gathering and traveling with friends and family and helping others. She was a very active community member in Collingwood United Church and the Collingwood Hall.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Maurice “Skip”; daughters, Pat Doucette and Jill (Mike) Black; son, Chesley (Debi); grandchildren, Scott Walsh, Kristy (Matt) Sarausky, Craig and Nicole Doucette, Kelsea and Lauren Black; great-grandson, Eli Sarausky; sisters, Grace Smith, Mary (Don) MacKay, Ellen (Dan) Gillis; brothers, Art (Noreen), Edward, Jack (Sharon), Don, Kenny (Gail). Predeceased by son-in-law, Mike Doucette; brothers, Gordon and Henry; sister, Jean Benjamin; bother-in-law, Morrison; sisters-in-law, Hilda, Louise and Rita Simons.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, October 23 in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, 5075 Main St., Oxford (447-2930). A service celebrating Shirley’s life will be held Thursday, October 24 at 2 p.m. in Collingwood United Church.
