NEW GLASGOW – Richard Lloyd Sloan, May 9, 1929 - Oct. 22, 2013.
Dad left us peacefully with Alison at his side, in the River Glen Wing of Glen Haven Manor, where he called home for the past three years.
He was born in Stellarton to the late Ray and Grace (MacDonald) Sloan.
He was a quiet, loving husband, father, brother and Grand Dad who enjoyed our visits on Chisholm St., and as a young man, bowling, skating, puzzles and a card game. In his lifetime he held a variety of jobs from CNR, carpet installation sales rep, arena manager, he was indeed a man who wore many hats. He met challenges head on from home renos to gardening, a great handy man and father.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary (Poole).
He is survived by daughters: Jessie (Harvey) MacNeil, Stellarton; Wanda Perkins, Cambridge; Alison (Richard) Proteau, New Glasgow; sons, Ian (Marilyn), Dartmouth; Kenneth (Kathy), Dartmouth; grandchildren: Jay Sloan; Daniel (Katie) MacNeil; Trevor (Roseanna) Perkins; Teri-Lynn (Scott) Masters; Trent (Vicky) Perkins; Benoit and Cameron Proteau; Ricky (Erin) Sloan, Victoria Sloan; Travis (Leanne) Dorey; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Viola (Ducky) MacLean; Helen (Stan) Flowers; sister-in-law Doris Sloan; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Daniel and George; sister Dora Turnbull and son-in-law Carl Perkins.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. There will be no visitation. Private family burial will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 26 in the Lorne Street Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Glen Haven Manor Social Committee in Dad’s memory would be appreciated.
We wish to thank Dad’s River Glen family for their loving compassionate care for Dad and his family, you are special. Thanks to Dr. Forbes and Sister Mary for comforting prayers and support. Thank you Brian and Greg for kindness and guidance during our sad times.
