F. Maurice Rowan

ROWAN, F. MAURICE - It is with great sadness we announce the death of Maurice Rowan, 83, on October 25, 2013 due to complications following surgery. Born in Fredericton, he was the youngest child of the late C. Herbert and Mary Rowan and the last surviving member of his immediate family. Raised on a farm in Lincoln, NB, Maurice attended Fredericton High School and University of New Brunswick. He owned an Irving service station and then joined Lever Brothers where he worked for over 30 years. Maurice ended his career in real estate with Century 21 in Dartmouth. Maurice and Rae (Briggs) married in Fredericton in 1952. They moved in the 1960's to Dartmouth, where they raised their seven children. Maurice loved spending summers at the family cottage in Lower Barney's River and staying in touch with his children as they moved across the province, the country and around the globe. He loved to read, was a great storyteller and had a dry but wicked sense of humour. He was greatly saddened when Rae passed away in 1991. In recent years Maurice and second wife Sema moved to Annapolis Royal where he enjoyed watching the wildlife (especially the hummingbirds!) and listening to the river run in his new backyard. Maurice is survived by wife Sema Ozturk; children Michael (Susan), Suzanne (Rene Bialek), Andrea (Peter Crouse), Shelley (Charles Salmon), Patrick (Katherine), David (Monica Kiil), Kathryn (Douglas Turner); grandchildren Kim (Matt Maxwell) and Kelley Rowan; Caitlyn, Jason, and Annie Bialek; Brian and Brad Crouse; Ethan, Dylan and Julia Rowan; Sam Rowan; great granddaughter Emry Maxwell; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Rae, sisters Josephine and Isabelle and brother Leo.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 29 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm, at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St. Dartmouth. Funeral Service at 10 am on Wednesday October 30 at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Parish, 15 Caledonia Road, Dartmouth, followed by interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens and a reception at Atlantic Funeral Home.
