Joan Carr
CARR, JOAN ANNE BLANCHE (WADDELL) - It is with great sadness that we report the death of Joan Anne Blanche (Waddell) Carr of Fredericton, NB on November 6th, as the result of complications from cancer. Joan was born in Ottawa on March 12, 1936, the daughter of William and Helen (Van Wart) Waddell. Survived by her children Jodi (Leonard) Lee-White and Jennifer (Charles Wilby) Carr of Fredericton, she was the proud grandmother to Alec and Nina Lee-White and Molly and Zakk Wilby. She is also survived by her dear sister June Greig of Edmonton, as well as many nieces and nephews across Canada. Joan was predeceased by her parents, a brother William Waddell, and sons Bruce and Jeffrey Carr. Joan left home at an early age and travelled the country before enlisting with the Royal Canadian Navy, serving on HMCS Cornwallis and Stadacona. After raising a family and working in a local doctor’s office, she attended UNB to earn her B.A and M.A. in Sociology. She then worked for a number of years as a social worker for the Children’s Aid Society in Sault Ste. Marie and Brampton, ON, but retired to Fredericton to be closer to her grandchildren. Well read, Joan had strong beliefs in opportunities and equality for all, especially women and children.
At Joan's request, there will be a private family viewing, followed by a gathering of friends and family for a joyful celebration of her life, to be held at the Fredericton Train Station on Friday, November 15th, from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made via the McAdam’s Funeral Home to the Mgr-Henri-Cormier Lodge in Moncton, where she was treated so well during her treatments -- a place where she made many beautiful friends and wonderful memories under such unlikely circumstances, for which she was very thankful.
