Gerald Gerard Sullivan

Sullivan, Gerald Gerard
It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Gerald, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He passed away at the Colchester Regional Hospital in Truro on November 6, 2013, at the age of 62, after an almost four year battle with cancer. Although he struggled with this illness for so long, he never complained of the pain and suffering he endured. Born on March 19, 1951 in Antigonish, he was the son of the late Donald and Sadie Sullivan of Roman Valley. He worked for Maritime Tel. & Tel. / Bell Aliant as a business services technician for 32 years until his retirement in July 2007. He had a great passion for his woodlot and magnificent Christmas tree lot in Roman Valley that he maintained himself until he was no longer able. He was a “Jack of all trades” who looked forward to challenges and conquered them all. Gerald will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. Left with fond memories are his supportive wife of 37 years, Judy (Fitzgerald), Truro, formerly of Guysborough; daughters, Jessica, Calgary; Jillian (Josh) Kennedy, Bible Hill; Tracey (Doug) Gray, Hammonds Plains; granddaughters, Taylor and Madison Gray and grandson, Caelin Kennedy (his precious little buddy). He is also survived by brothers, Alfie (Phemia), Dartmouth; Donnie (Shirley), Ottawa and Bridgewater; Hugh James (Monica), Antigonish; Gillis (Mini), Roman Valley; Cameron (Sandra), Truro; Jack (Linda), Dauphin; sisters, Kay DeRenzis, Sebring; Mary (Harry) Schade, Halifax; Anne O’Leary, Purcell’s Cove; Brenda (Doug) MacDonald, Lochaber; Patricia (Lloyd) Hines, Guysborough; Helen (Donnie) Harris, Antigonish; parents-in-law, Gerald and Mildred Fitzgerald, Boylston; brothers-in-law, Ted Larsen, Purcell’s Cove; Tim Fitzgerald, Boylston; Gerald (Rose) Fitzgerald Jr., Guysborough; sisters-in-law, Janet Sullivan, Guysborough; Pamela Fitzgerald, Halifax; Angela Fitzgerald, Halifax; 21 nieces and 22 nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Sadie Sullivan; sister, Maureen Sullivan-Larsen; brother, Joseph Sullivan; brothers-in-law, Joe DeRenzis, Terry O’Leary and Kevin Fitzgerald. Special thanks to Dr. Mark Taylor, Judy Phillips, Dr. Murali Rajaramun, Dr. Mary Davis and especially, Dr. Bruce Phillips for the commitment and compassion they showed Gerald during his illness. A celebration of Gerald’s life will held on Tuesday, November 12 from 2:00 – 4:00 at the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. Cremation has taken place. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.colchestercommunity.com
