Joseph Wilfred  Arsenault

ARSENAULT, Joseph Wilfred, “Wilf” 85, Truro, passed away November 8, 2013 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Bedeque, Prince Edward Island, he was the son of the late Arras and Annie Arsenault, Summerside, P.E.I. Wilfred was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He joined the force in 1949 and after training in Regina and Ottawa was transferred to Halifax. In 1951, he volunteered for service in the Northwest Territories. He saw service in Hay River, Fort Smith, Cambridge Bay and Coppermine. In 1954 he returned to Halifax where he met his wife of 57 years, Margaret “Peggy” (Gray). He was posted to Glace Bay in 1959. From there he became Detachment Commander of Meteghan, Port Hawkesbury, Amherst then to Truro Sub/Division Headquarters as Administrative N/CO. He retired in 1984 with the rank of Staff/Sgt. after 35 years of service. Along with his wife, he is survived by his four children, Paul (Darlene) Arsenault, Halifax; David (Sandra) Arsenault, Truro; John (Christine) Arsenault, Dartmouth and Janet (Jake Harms) Arsenault, Halifax; five grandchildren, Heather, Colin, Amy, Ross and Marc. Wilfred is also survived by sisters, Helen, Yvonne and Jean; brothers, Gerald and David. Besides his parents, Wilfred was predeceased by sisters, Zelma, Clara, Lorena, Eunice and brothers, Ellery and George and by step-brother Ralph MacDonald; step sisters, Austina MacDonald and Louise Arsenault. Wilfred was a member of the RCMP Veterans Association and the Truro Knights of Columbus. Funeral mass will be held at the Roman Catholic Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince St.,Truro, on Wednesday, November 13th at 2:30 p.m. Reception to follow in Campbell Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro or the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Truro.
