TRENTON – Bernard James MacDonald, age 82, of Hampson St., Trenton, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 in the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Doug and Marybelle (MacLean) MacDonald.
He was a lifelong resident of Trenton. Bernard worked at Hawker Siddeley as a supervisor for 40 years, and was also a Commissionaire. He served with the Black Watch in the Canadian Army. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing darts and boxing while in the army. He was a member of Christ the King Parish and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 29.
Bernard is survived by a daughter, Marybelle (Alan) Gillard, Truro; sons, Howard, Trenton; Steven (Heather), Trenton; grandchildren: Norman (Lana), Petawawa; Crystal (Jayson) Euloth, Hilden; Christopher, Calgary; Peter (Kelly), Sylvester; great-grandchildren: Colby and Brody, Petawawa; Cameron and Trent, Hilden; and expecting one in April.
He was predeceased by his wife Nora (Cameron); sisters, Theresa, Mary; brothers: Francis, Peter and Joe.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from Christ the King Roman Catholic Church with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Royal Canadian Legion Br. 29 Trenton will meet at the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to conduct their service.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Stroke Rehab Unit at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
