Gordon Lee Phillips

PHILLIPS, Gordon Lee – 85, Truro. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gordon Lee Phillips, on Monday morning, November 18, 2013, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born September 14, 1928, in Truro, he was a son of the late Charles and Mildred (Adams) Phillips. Gordon was a member of St. John The Evangelist Anglican Church, Truro, where he sang in the choir for many years. In his earlier years, he worked in a mining camp in Quebec, met and married his wife in Lunenburg and then began his career with Royal Canadian Air Force in Greenwood. His career with the Air Force saw him stationed in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, La Macaza, Quebec and finally back to Greenwood. He traveled extensively with the Air Force to New Zealand, Australia, Europe and Fiji. He had a lifelong love of airplanes and of fixing things. After moving to Truro, he worked at A.J. Walker and Sons for 12 years. Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Doris Irene (Berringer); son, Darrin (Nicole) Phillips, Truro; niece, Paula Berringer, Bridgewater. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Colin (Velda) Phillips. A private graveside interment service will be held in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. If so desired, donations in Gordon’s memory to Colchester East Hants Hospital Foundation are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
