JOHNSTON, JOAN MARY - It is with deep sadness that the family of Joan Mary Johnston, wife of Roderick King Johnston, announce her passing on November 18th, 2013 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB, on December 29th, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Harold C. and Mary (Green) Milley of Saint John. In addition to her husband of 58 years, Joan is survived by her five children, Roderick William Johnston (Karen) of Stratford, PE, Susan Mary Looby (Scott) of Dunchurch, ON, Margret Ann Tanner (Greg) of Trenton, ON, Stephen John Johnston (Kim) of Windsor, ON, and Peter Harold Johnston (Marilyn) of Barrie, ON. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amanda, Angela, Meghan, Jennifer, Jackie, Matt, Jeff, Mike, Carson, Emily and Abby; great grandchildren, Ashlee and Aiden; as well as brothers, Chet Milley (Freda) of Youngs Cove, NB and William Milley (Rona) of Saint John, NB. Joan followed her husband to his various postings in the military which resulted in her five children all being born in different locations. They finally settled in Oromocto where she worked at Base Gagetown for 24 years before retiring. Her passions were the New York Times Crosswords, visiting PEI and most of all, spending time with her grandkids baking cookies.
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago St., on Friday, November 22nd, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Saturday, November 23rd at 2 pm with Rev Dr. Perry Hanley officiating. Interment will be in Oromocto Pioneer Gardens at a later date.
