It is with broken hearts and great sadness, that we, her loving family, announce the peaceful passing of Mary Marguerite Mackie on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, after a short sudden illness at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by her devoted family.
Born in Pictou, Mary was the daughter of the late Alfred and Ida (Ranson) Murphy.
She worked for a number of years as a chef at the Town House Restaurant and then Jaspers. She was a very hard worker who will always be remembered for her devotion to her family, her great sense of humour and more than giving nature. Mary loved spending her summers in Iona as well as visiting her friends at the Seniors Complex in Dominion. She always put others needs ahead of her own.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Frank Mackie of 47 years; her two daughters, Debbie MacLeod (Al), Dartmouth, Mary Francis (Trevor) Ponee, Fall River; and her son, Billy Mackie, Calgary. She loved her grandchildren, Cameron, Kelsey, Aidan, Tristan, Matteus, Ava and ‘rotten spoiled' them dearly. Mary is also survived by her brother, Jim Murphy (Jenny), Dominion; sisters, Patsy MacDonald, Dominion, and Sheila Boland (Elton), Kitchener. Mary will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Robert MacDonald (Dominion).
Many thanks to the nurses on 2nd Floor of New Waterford Hospital as well as Palliative Care, C.B. Regional Hospital, who made her feel very well looked after and comfortable.
No visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion, followed by interment in St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines. Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating. All are invited to join the family for a reception in the church hall.
Donations in Mary's memory may be made to Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society.
