It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our mother, and grandmother, Rita Annette Critch on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney on Aug. 23, 1923, Rita was the beloved daughter of the late Michael and Lillian (Robbins) MacIntyre.
Rita was a member of The Salvation Army Church, Home League and Pensioner Club. Family was everything to Rita. She loved to entertain everyone with her cooking and baking. Rita will be remembered by her family and friends for being strong-willed and independent.
Rita is survived by her loving children, Kevin (Theresa Marie Chiasson) Critch, Judy (Henry) Jewer, Sharon Taylor, Jean (John) MacDonald, Bonnie (Raymond) Steeves, Sue (Leon Goulet) Smith, Glenda (John) White and Patsy (Todd) McVicar; as well as 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her husband, William Allan Critch, brothers, Michael at infancy and John, sisters, Edna MacIntyre, Ann ‘Cookie’ Cameron and Florence Campbell, and a son-in-law, Heber Taylor.
Visitation for the late Rita Critch will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd, Sydney, on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, Nov. 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate the life of Rita Critch will be held on Friday, Nov. 29, at 12:30 p.m. in The Salvation Army Sydney Community Church, 55 Inglis St., Sydney, with Major Kent Hepditch officiating.
Memorial donations in memory of Rita may be made to The Salvation Army Church.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
