It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Fraser Oakley, on Dec.1 , 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Quarry, St. Anns, he was the son of the late Lindsay and Annie (Morrison) Oakley.
Fraser was born and raised in Cape Breton, and moved to Sudbury, Ont. to work in the INCO nickel mines, where he retired in 1985, with 33 years of service. He returned to Cape Breton in 1990, where he married Ella (MacLeod) and has resided there for the last 23 years. Fraser was an elder of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, and also a member of the Gaelic choir for many years. Fraser was well known, well respected, and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife Ella. Loving father of Chris (Mary) MacDonald, Debra (Richard) O’Brien, Barbara (Denis) Pharand, Gary, Cindy (Garry) Shyminsky, Peter (Joanne), also survived by 19 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. Stepfather to Ian (Cathy) MacLeod and Kathy (Bernie) MacLeod, also five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Beloved brother of Ruth Morrison. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn is brother-in-law Jack (Suzie) Carr, and sister-in-law, Mary Oakley.
Fraser was predeceased by his wife, Irene (Carr) and daughter, Mary Lamothe, brother, George, and sister, Catherine Kerr.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Heussein, Dr. Chow, Dr. Gange, Dr. Ritter and staff of the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, for their exceptional care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Andrew’s Church, North River.
Visitation for Fraser will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, from 12-2 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church, North River. Funeral service will take place following the visitation at 2 p.m. Interment to take place at a later date in Sudbury, Ont.
