It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Chant (MacNeil) on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at the Victoria Haven Nursing Home in Glace Bay, N.S.
Catherine was the daughter of the late John Roderick MacNeil and Annie Murphy.
She was born in Reserve Mines on April 19, 1922, but lived most of her life in Glace Bay. She was fondly known to all as 'Katie'.
Katie had a great love for children and that was represented through her work as a foster mom to over 60 children throughout the years. She was a hard worker, a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who always put her family first. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Katie was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, her three children, Ann (Politte), Wayne and John Leo; her granddaughter, Dana and her grandson Daniel, seven sisters, five brothers and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Esther (Nessie) White; her foster son, John Carter (Gloria), 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral Mass to be held at St. Anne’s Church in Glace Bay on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church foyer. Interment to take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery following the reception. Fr. Leo Boone officiating.
