JOHN (JOCK) BENNETT

Born in Prestonpans, Scotland on October 10, 1928. Passed away peacefully December 1, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Sechelt, BC.
Jock leaves behind his wife Gayle, five step-children, Janet and Terry Neil, Joe and Kathy Pedneault, Geoff and Rosalie Pedneault, Scott and Diane Pedneault, Janine Pedneault and Sean Whalen, 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sister Cathy Laing and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and four siblings.
Jock came to Canada at age 11 to the Fairbridge Farm School in Duncan, BC. He spent ten years with the Merchant Marine Services. He worked in Ocean Falls, Vancouver and spent his remaining working years at Howe Sound Pulp & Paper in Port Mellon.
Jock, along with three other men, was instrumental in starting up the Youth Soccer League on the Sunshine Coast. He coached for 20 years and hopefully is still coaching now. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 45 years. Jock was a founding member of the Gibsons Curling Club, the Sunshine Coast Golf Club, and the Gibsons Yacht Club.
No service by request. There will be a family gathering at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary or to the Fairbridge Alumni Bursary Society, 175 April Road, Port Moody, BC V3H 3M7.
