With sadness we announce the passing of our brother and uncle, Alexander Penny, 75, on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late William and Annie Jane (Hawley) Penny.
Alex was a coal miner working in #1 Colliery in Sydney Mines for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
He is survived by his two brothers, Ambrose 'Bud' (Nellie) Penny and Jack (Claudia) Penny, both of North Sydney; and one sister, Sadie MacPherson, Sydney Mines. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers George, Mansel and Gordon Penny.
Visitation will be held for Alex for family, close friends and neighbours on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass to be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
