It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Walter E. Adams of Shediac Rd., Moncton, who passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, December 6, 2013. Born in Elmsdale, he was the son of the late John and Naomi (Warren) Adams. Walter was a compassionate man who worked extremely hard to build a successful business, ServiceMaster Restore of Moncton, which he owned and operated for 45 years. As an avid collector of antique cars and tractors, he participated in many car shows and won numerous awards and accolades for his antiques. Travelling was also something he loved to do, particularly going on cruises with his wife, Freda. He loved being surrounded by his family and friends, especially at his cottage on P.E.I. For all who knew him, Walter was a kind, generous soul who will be greatly missed. Walter will be sadly missed by his loving wife and best friend of 47 years, Freda (Reid) Adams; son, Troy (Lynn) and daughter, Krista Fairweather (Andy), both of Moncton; grandchildren, Jack and Anna – Poppy’s pride and joy. He is also survived a brother, Eric (Sandra) of Burlington, ON; sisters, Thelma Wells of Elmsdale, Ruby Fraser (Roy) of Northport, Gail MacDonald of Elmsdale and Lorraine MacKinnon (Fraser) of Darnley; brothers-in-law, Brendan Wallace of Elmsdale, Doug Reid (Judy) of Summerside, Roy Bell of Tignish; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Aukema (Ted) of Whitby, ON, Lily Riley of Alberton, Lillian Adams of Rosebank, Ruth Ryder (Alden) of Summerside, Norma Bryan (Alvin) of Foxley River, Doris Holford (David) of Cornwall, ON, Daisy Dwyer (Tom) of Kingston, NS, Iris Wagner (Ted) of Seattle, WA, and Nina Campbell of Charlottetown; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant daughter; brothers, Elmer, Ivan and Alvin; sisters, Anna May (infancy), Roberta Wallace, Blanche Hardy and brothers-in-law, Harry Wells and Cleve Hardy; sister-in-law, Jean Bell, Elmsdale and brother-in-law, Donald Campbell, Charlottetown. Visitation at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (506-858-1995) on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service at Fergusons Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Scott Ryder officiating, assisted by Rev. Delbert Bannister and by Dr. Laurel Buckingham. Reception to follow the service in the Funeral Home Reception Centre. Interment in Elmsdale United Church Cemetery in Elmsdale, P.E.I., on Monday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. Committal service to be led by Pastor Scott Ryder. Reception to follow at the Elmsdale Community Centre.
