VAN DRIEST, (HANK) HENDRICUS - (Hank) Hendricus van Driest of Fredericton N.B., passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on December 4th, 2013. Born in Haarlem in The Netherlands on May 21, 1936, he was the only son of the late Hendricus and late Hilligje van Driest of Hamilton Ont. Hank had a tremendously quick mind and an unforgettable sense of humor and spirit that he kept until the end. He took great pride in whatever he set his mind to do and didn’t relax until he perfected it. He will be missed by his loving wife, Victoria (Merchant) van Driest who was by his side for 56 years: his daughter, Christina van Driest (David Dodd) of Victoria Island B.C.; his son Richard van Driest (Tasha Gray) of Fredericton N.B.; his three sisters: Christine (Alex Goral), Alberdina (Sjouke Ynema) and Maartje van Driest all from Hamilton Ont.; his grandchildren: Kirsten, Ryan and Avery Dodd, Christopher, Matthew and Sara van Driest and, Spencer and Brooklyn Gray; as well as by many extended family members and friends. Besides his parents, Hank was predeceased by his sister: Hilligje Marshall of Hamilton Ont. Our sincere thanks and appreciation to Doctor D. Gowan for her untiring support and devotion to Hank and his family. Special thanks to the many other Doctors and staff at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton. Our thanks also to the care giving staff of Bayshore Home Health.
Following cremation and honoring his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family interment will be held at a later date at the Maugerville Baptist Cemetery. www.chipmanfuneralhome.ca
