Theresa MacDermid

Born: September 24th, 1930

Passed in: Big Bras d'Or
Passed on: December 6th, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Theresa MacDermid (MacIntosh) on Dec. 6, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
Theresa, Ma, Nannie, Great-Nan; a woman of many names, but a singular heart. Hers was a heart that loved gently, supported powerfully, worried wonderfully and comforted like few others. Her love took many forms. Often it was felt in a full stomach: in a warm biscuit or cinnamon roll, a hot bowl of soup or a delicious piece of pie. To some it meant quiet wisdom as she listened, comforted and supported them through one of life’s many quandaries. For many others it was felt in a quick hand and a quick wit at the card table. She was sometimes spotted bicycling with her sisters, on their way for a swim. Later she could often be found riding next to her loving husband of 45 years, Donald, to places like Kempt Head, the Cape, Florida, to town, to Baddeck, and other places where they would meet some of the many cherished people of their lives (so often with children in tow).
In her golden years she continued to live to the very fullest. Ever thoughtful, ever giving, never dull, simply put … a queen of hearts.
Theresa was the daughter of the late James and Katie MacIntosh. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Maureen (Keith) MacLeod, Donald (Vicki) MacDermid and Lynn (Gerald) Dunlop; grandchildren, Dale (Stephanie), Ryan (Megan) and Melissa, Erica (Conan), Angela (Conrad), Lindsey (Marc) and Malcolm, Kaleigh, Andrew, Theresa-Ann (Bruce) and James; sisters, Mary Murphy and Margaret Sexton; great-grandchildren, Thea, Lawson, Cohen, Alayna and Abbigail; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Donald, sister Eva Snow, brother Dougie and brother John, who died in infancy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Northside General Hospital and Dr. Bernie MacIntosh and Dr. Charlie Coish for their outstanding care and compassion prior to her passing.Visitation will take place at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home at 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, on Tuesday, Dec. 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral celebrating her life will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at St. James Presbyterian Church, Big Bras d'Or, with Rev. Peter MacDonald officiating. Reception to follow in the church basement.
