David Buckland
BUCKLAND, DAVID ALLAN - David A. Buckland passed away on December 11, 2013 in Saint John. He was born in Springfield, NB, in 1926, to the late Reverend Harry Thomas and Stella Miriam Dellar (Wedge) Buckland. David spent his early years living in various Anglican parishes in southern New Brunswick. Later he attended Rothesay Collegiate. He left the Collegiate to enlist in the Canadian military during World War II. Following the war he began his working life, developing a career in property assessment, first with the City of Lancaster, then with the City of Saint John, finally with the Province of New Brunswick. He served as the Director of Assessment for both the Moncton and Hampton regions. He was President of the New Brunswick Association of Assessing Officers, as well as, President of the Northeastern Regional Association of Assessing Officers. Along with his government career, he owned and operated a tent and trailer campground, Buckland Meadows, in Quispamsis for many years. He was known for his tireless energy, his outgoing manner and his spirited sense of humour. David is survived by his wife, Joan (Magee) and by his three children: Peter (Judy Halassy) of Saint John, Trish Johnson (Stephen) of Quispamsis and Michael of Brooklyn, New York. He leaves behind four grandchildren: Kerri Stevens (Jack) of Quispamsis, Elliott Buckland (Kristen Ali) of Ottawa, Adrienne Buckland of Halifax and Joshua Halassy-Creamer (Monica Wander) of Toronto. He had three great grandchildren: Mya Stevens, Kayden Stevens and Anaya Halassy-Creamer. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Durning and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his brother, Canon Basil J. Buckland, and by one grandson Joel Johnson.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 13, 2013 from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Rothesay at 2 pm followed by a reception at the church. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
