Phyllis Strickey
Passed in: Sydney
Passed on: December 18th, 2013
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Phyllis Strickey early Wednesday morning, Dec. 18, 2013.
She was a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care where she lived out her lengthy and enthusiastic life until her final breath, just shy of her 99th birthday.
Phyllis was the daughter of the late Philip Walsh and Stella (Richardson).
Phyllis is survived by her only daughter, Sondra Kennedy (John Kennedy) and her four grandchildren, Vince Kennedy (Ann Marie), Ontario, David Kennedy (Cathy), Ontario, Derek Kennedy (Ellie), Reserve, and Carol Rizzetto (Gilbert), Coxheath; 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Phyllis also leaves behind a niece, Joy Doyle (Bill) and her three children, as well as her cherished sister-in-law, Jean Walsh.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, John Strickey, brother, Harry Walsh and two great- grandchildren, Johnny Kennedy and Sondra Rizzetto.
Phyllis spent the majority of her married life raising her daughter in South Bar. She was a card shark and a knitting machine, making sweaters for those she loved that will remain in our families forever. The cherished “Great Nan” was delighted with the chance to babysit whoever was lucky enough to be dropped off at her door. Everyone left her house smiling and full to the brim with her unbeatable home cooking and delicious sweets. Her Christmas baking made our holidays special and will be carried on through the generations ... especially her gingerbread men and maids of honors.
We would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff in the ‘St. Ann’s Bay Ward’ for treating Phyllis like your own family. Your exceptional treatment enabled her remaining years to be as comfortable as possible.
At Phyllis’ request, a private burial will be held in St. Alphonsus Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements will be entrusted to Sydney Memorial Chapel.
Memorial donations can be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation or to a charity of choice.
"You waited 41 years to see “Your John,” no more lonely Sundays ..."
