Lucy Jean (Jane) MacLean

Lucy Jean (Jane) MacLean passed away peacefully the evening of Dec. 18, 2013.
During the day she was surrounded by the love and caring of her niece Valerie and husband Stan Poirier.
Jane was sent on her way to join her husband John Hugh (December, 1991) with words of comfort and faith by Fr. Bedford Doucette.
Jane was born in Margaree, October, 1922 to parents Leo and Delena (Aucoin) LeBlanc and left that area as a young girl relocating to Glace Bay.
She was a switchboard operator for Dominion Coal Company and Martime Tel&Tel. After her marriage to Hughie in 1954 she had to leave her employment because married women where not permitted to work. Jane continued to work in the area, doing domestic work for many families who appreciated all her efforts.
Jane is lovingly survived by her sister Margaret in Halifax, 40 nieces and nephews and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.
Jane was predeceased by her sisters, Cecilia, Bernice and brothers Alphonse and Henry. Also, grandnephews Bernard LeBlanc, Darryl Petrie, Warren Poirier and D.J. Cameron- Petrie.
Jane was a resident of Reserve Mines for 44 years, Highland Court Seniors, New Waterford for two years and enjoyed the love and care from the staff from Alderwood Nursing Home in Baddeck and recently, the Cove Nursing Home in Sydney.
Jane was a member of St. Joseph’s CWL for 21 years and also parishioner of St. Joseph’s parish. After Hughie passed away, Jane eagerly became involved in her parish helping out with funeral receptions, fundraising activities and Tuesday bowling and crafts with the girls. Jane was a great baker and was famous for her butterscotch pies made from scratch. Some of her many talents, were knitting mittens, sewing Halloween costumes and crocheting beautiful doilies. Jane loved her cat Ginger who was a great comfort to her after the loss of Hughie and she also loved her garden.
Visitation will take place at St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, Dec. 21, from 10-11 a.m. Funeral mass will follow at 11:15 a.m. The Rev Danny Boudreau will be officiaiting. The interment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
