It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Genevieve “Jenny” MacDonald, 81, on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Florence, Jenny was a daughter of the late Maurice and Florence (Jessome) Edwards.
She was employed for a number of years as the housekeeper at the Glebe House of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, St. Joseph Church and also for the Sisters of Charity. She was an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, for many years, was a Eucharistic minister, a member of the CWL. She was an avid card player, organized the parish bingo and card games and was a volunteer with Hospice Palliative Care.
Jenny is survived by her sons, Colin (Yvonne), Gerard (Brenda), Gordon (Rhonda), Kenny (Peggy), all of North Sydney; her daughters, Brenda (Brian) MacMullin, North Sydney, and Janet (Butch) Geggie, Moncton; her 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; her brother, Gerald (Georgie) Edwards, Sydney Mines; her sisters, Mildred MacPhee, Winnipeg, Elizabeth 'Lee' White, Florence; brother-in-law, Frank White; sisters-in-law, Shirley Edwards and Patsy Edwards, also by her special friend Naomi Perry, Ontario.
Jenny was predeceased by her husband, Colin MacDonald, brothers, Raymond, Cyril, Joseph 'Butch', Freddie and Gordon Edwards, sisters, Margie Edwards, Carolyn White and Muriel Skinner.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday (today) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Tuesday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Bill Crispo officiating, Rev. Conrad Edwards and Rev. Patrick O’Neill concelebrating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton or the Cancer Center at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
