Douglas Cameron

Douglas Gerald Cameron, formerly of Acadia Ave., Stellarton, passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 in the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born in Mt. Thom, he was a son of the late James and Jeanette Cameron.
Doug was born on a scenic farm in Mt. Thom, the eldest of eight children. He married Marilyn Anita Rawding, a teacher from the south shore, in 1955. They lived on Bridge Avenue, Stellarton, later moving to Drummond Road, Westville. Doug worked as a mechanic for most of his life, spending his early years at Warren Maritimes Construction Company. He later worked at the Market Square Motors, and then the W. O’Farrell dealership for 20 years before retiring. Doug was known for his love of family and friends, was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, gardening, hockey games and never missed an exhibition. He continuously lent a helping hand to stranded motorists and repaired friends’ cars. In retirement Doug resided contently at 99 Acadia Avenue, Stellarton where he spent time with family and friends, enjoyed Hockey Night in Canada, and all the local news.
Doug is survived by his only daughter Michele (David) Cole, and grandchildren Nathan and Jenette, Brampton, Ont. Doug will be sadly missed by his siblings: James (Buster) Cameron Saltsprings; Kaye Cameron, New Glasgow; Martha (Rev. Bill) White, Alma; Faye (Hazen) Underhill, Gagetown, NB; Pat (Allan) Collie, Green Hill; special nephew and namesake Doug (Norma) Cameron, Watervale.
He was predeceased by his wife Marilyn; sisters Shirley Brown and Peggy Cameron; sisters-in-law Olive Cameron, Ina Cameron, and father and mother-in-law James and Ada Rawding.
A memorial service will be held at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home in New Glasgow on Monday, December 30th at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Charles McPherson presiding. A reception to follow in the funeral home.
