Myrtle Frances (MacPherson) Campbell, age 88, of Stanley, Hants Co., passed away peacefully at Melville Lodge, Halifax, on December 20, 2013. Born on October 29, 1925 and raised in Windsor, Nova Scotia, she was the youngest child of the late Alexander and Blanche (Herring) MacPherson. After graduating from Windsor Academy, Myrtle taught school for one year in Greenhill and then entered the Aberdeen Hospital School of Nursing, New Glasgow, where she graduated in 1949 as a Registered Nurse. In 1950, she married W. Glen Campbell of Stanley and together they raised seven children. Myrtle was active in both church and community. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Women’s Institute, ACW, the alter guild of St. Stephen’s, the parish choir and was a canvasser for the Canadian Cancer Society. Her involvement in her community often reflected the interests and activities of her children – Sunday school, church youth groups and 4-H. She was the anchor that held a busy and often chaotic household together. She is survived by her seven children, Carol (Roy) Church, Dartmouth; Faye, Dartmouth; Keith (Jayne), Blandford; Anne, Paradise; Shirley (Duanne) Tanswell, Stanley; Sharon, Stanley; and Cheryl (Greg) Harris, Grande Prairie, Alta.; eight grandchildren, Justin and Nicholas Church; Sarah Verran; Michael Soontiens; Marsha Croft; Alex Campbell; Angela and Ryan Cochrane; six great-grandchildren, sister, Muriel Paddock, Selkirk, Man.; and sisters-in-law, Helen (Egbert) Caldwell, Valley; Aileen Campbell, Windsor; Olive (Albert) Sparks, Dartmouth; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Glen, in 2000, and siblings, Walter, Murray, Ralph, Owen, Elmer, Mildred Covert, Helen Noiles and Edith Forsyth. The family would like to thank the many caregivers who provided loving care, especially Kerry Lee Fenton and Mary Crawford. A special thank you to Sharon and Shirley, who provided the support for Mum to remain in her home as long as possible. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, Windsor. The Rev. Carson Baxter officiated, followed by a reception in the Lindsay Family Reception Centre, 184 King Street. Interment will be held at a later date in St. Stephen’s Anglican Parish Cemetery, Stanley.
