It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing, after a brief illness, of our loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Joanne M. Nichol, 65, of Florence, on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Born in Sydney Mines, Joanne was the daughter of the late Hugh Garnet and Ann Frances (Waye) MacLean. Joanne enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, her family was the most important aspect of her life. She spent many hours with her late husband Dennis, enjoying fishing, ice fishing and camping and is now reunited with him.
Joanne is survived by her children Dennis (Cindy) Nichol, Florence, Tammy Nichol (Robbie), Boularderie, Sherry Nichol (Gerald), Florence, Jamie (Sarah) Nichol, Sydney Mines; her grandchildren, Jordan, Tasha, Courtney, Jessica, Jenna, Tayler, Emily, Logan, Madison and Cody; one great-grandchild, Brody; her brothers, Vince (Rose) MacLean, Bras d’Or, David (Debbie) MacLean, Ontario, and John James (Val) MacLean, Calgary, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Dennis and several brothers and sisters.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service for Joanne will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
