Passed away after a courageous battle with ALS in the presence of his loving family at the Health Sciences Centre -Wayne Joseph Whitten age 59 years. Predeceased by his parents Cyril and Iris (nee Crane), grandparents Tom and Margaret (nee Viscount) Whitten, John William and Mary Emma (nee Bishop) Crane; Parents -in-law James V. and Catherine (nee Browne) Walsh, brother-in-law Geoff Walsh; uncles and aunts Josiah (Olive) Crane, Gertie (Leander) Mercer, Herb Pippy, John Peach; cousins Kevin, Gerald and Randell Crane. Leaving to mourn Cathy (nee Walsh), his devoted best friend and wife of 34 years; much beloved son Michael (Kaitlyn Kean), siblings Larry (Penny), Gerry (Barb), Ed (Jo Ann), Randy (Margaret), Tom (Susan), David (Cathy), Rick, Ann Marie (Glenn); In laws Jennifer (Shane) Downs, Jim Walsh (Janet Vivian-Walsh), Judy Walsh; aunts and uncles Edward (Marina) Crane, Jean Peach, Susie Pippy, Ralph (Phyllis) Crane and Clyde (Becky) Crane. Nephews and nieces Chris, Steven,Karen, Julie, Susan, Scott, Shawn, Amanda, Katie, Leanne, Michelle, Tyler, Kyle, Andrew, Christopher, Matthew, Jason, Stephanie, James, Jessica and Kathleen. Also leaving behind special friends Kevin and Gail Mercer and beloved family dog Suzie as well as a large circle of other family and friends. Many thanks goes out to Dr. Jennifer Stender, the doctors and staff of 5 North A Neurology at the Health Sciences Centre as well as the doctors and staff of the Miller Centre Day Treatment Program. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, 84 Lemarchant road on Saturday from 7 pm- 9 pm and Sunday from 10 am - 12 noon and 2 pm- 4 pm and 7 pm -9 pm. Funeral mass 11:30 am on Monday, December 30, 2013 from St Teresa's Church with cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers (due to family allergies), it is politely requested that donations be made to either the ALS Society of Newfoundland and Labrador or the Family History Society of Newfoundland and Labrador.
