Passed peacefully away on Saturday, December 28th, 2013 after a bravely fought battle with Alzheimer Disease, Kevin Joseph Newell, age 84 years. Welcoming him into heaven with open arms were his loving parents William and Mary Newell, beloved sister Emmie Hickey, dearly loved brother Raymond, and brother-in-law Francis Oakley. Throughout his illness Kevin was cared for at home with great love and compassion by his brother Bill, with help from his sister Mary Oakley and her daughter Diana. They will miss his smile, his great singing voice, his bright blue eyes, and his wonderful sense of humour which was present even in his most difficult days. Most of all they will miss his unconditional love. In the last four months of his life Kevin was lovingly cared for by the doctors, nurses, and staff of East 2 at the Hoyles Home. They went above and beyond the call of duty to minister to his needs and to make sure he was comfortable especially in his final days. It was very clear that they cared about Kevin and his family and for that we will be forever grateful. Left to mourn their great loss is his main caregiver and dear brother Bill (Martha), his beloved sister Mary Oakley, special niece Diana Snow and her husband Gary, brother-in-law John Hickey, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends. In keeping with Kevin's wishes there will be no visitation. Funeral Mass to take place on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Pius X Church, Smithville Crescent. Private family inurnment to take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery after Mass. No flowers by request. Donations to the Alzheimer Society, in Kevin's memory, would be greatly appreciated.
