It is with heavy hearts, and fond memories, we announce the passing of Theresa, on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at the Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines, after a very courageous and difficult couple years of failing health, including the loss of personal mobility.
Theresa was born in Sydney, N.S., to the late Sadie Thomas and Russell Erwin Vardy. She was also a member of Holy Redeemer parish, Whitney Pier.
Left to remember and mourn her passing are her daughters, Cathy McNeil, North Sydney, Donna (Allan) Hansen, Slave Lake, Alta., Terry Stevens, Sydney; sons, George (Susan) Flin Flon Man., Russell, South Bar; brothers, Raymond (Neasie), Lorway (Margie) Vardy, New Waterford; sister, Catherine (Late Felix) Leonard, Newfoundland; grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Matthew, Alicia, Melanie and Christopher; sisters-in-law, Beulah Ash, Sydney River, Lorraine Vardy, Toronto, and Ollie Hulford, Sydney River; brother-in-law, John Stevens. She is also survived by friends, Phyllis Brookman and Hughie MacDonald, also many nieces and nephews.
Theresa was predeceased by her first husband, Harold Stevens, daughter, Joanne and son, Harold Stevens, both in infancy, brothers, Daniel, Russell, 'A' and Harold Vardy, ssisters, Ida and Eileen, and brother, Bernard all in infancy.
She was also predeceased by her second husband Frances Pettipas.
Cremation has taken place, a memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan 2 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Theresa's family would like to thank Dr. Kohlsmith and medical staff of the Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines, for the consistent and excellent care they gave her.
