
William "Billy" Melanson
MELANSON, WILLIAM “BILLY” - William "Billy" Melanson, 75, of Moncton, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at The Moncton Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born June 4, 1938 in Moncton, he was the son of the late Léo and Mae (MacGowan) Melanson. He was a retired firefighter with the City of Moncton for over 34 years. Billy enjoyed sports, particularly hockey and baseball. He was an avid hockey player and coach for many years. Billy took great pride in his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He is survived by his wife, Murielle (Haché); two sons: Randy (Jackie) and Brian (Leslie-Jo), both of Moncton; three grandchildren: Jesse, Courtney, and Kyle; two sisters: Doris Leger (Raymond) and Sandra Hicks (Jim) all of Moncton; two sisters-in-law: Irma (late Jim) Melanson and Fernande (late Jack) Melanson; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. He was predeceased by his first wife, Bernice (Mazerolle); his sister, Barbara (late Romeo) Cormier; and three brothers: Jimmy, Ronnie, and Jack.
The family will receive condolences at the Frenette Funeral Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900). Visiting hours Friday morning from 10 - 12 am and Friday evening from 7 to 9 pm; also Saturday morning from 9 am until time of departure for St. Bernard’s R.C. Church, 43 Botsford Street, Moncton from where the funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am, officiated by Father Allison Carroll. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton.
