With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Helen, on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, N.S.
Born in Reserve Mines, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Stella McNeil.
From the age of 10 she was raised by Syl and Marion Phalen in Glace Bay, N.S.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
For many years of her adult life Helen worked at Phalen’s Bakery in Glace Bay. Prior to moving to Milford Station, she lived in Hadleyville, N.S.
She is survived by daughters, Sylvia MacKinnon, Lower Sackville, and Marion (Dan) O’Neill, Milford Station, N.S., with whom she resided, and daughter-in-law Lorraine Gregor, Sydney Mines, N.S. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by husband Richie, and son Richard (Bumper).
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Donald Walker Funeral Services. There will be no public visitation by request.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Saint Elizabeth Seton Church, Lower Sackville, N.S.
