MACDONALD, DAVID GLENN - With heavy hearts, the family of David Glenn MacDonald, formerly from New Glasgow NS, Saint John NB and most recently Monrovia, Liberia, Africa announce his passing. Born in New Glasgow, NS, he is a son of Charlotte (Sangster) MacDonald and the late Robert MacDonald. David went to be with his Lord on Dec 24th 2013 unexpectedly while on his Christmas holiday hiking Mount Kenya in the Kenya National Park. He was living his dreams and following God’s will for his life. He had attended West Pictou High School and received his Diploma in Hotel/Motel Management from Dartmouth Regional Vocational School. David began his hotel career in Toronto at the Harbour Castle Hotel. He returned to the Maritimes and was employed with the Hilton Saint John as the Director of Finance for 26 years. In Saint John, he met the love of his life Carol Nodwell. They were married for 15 years until sadly Carol lost her battle with heart disease in 2003. David was an active member of Calvary Temple for many years. He then traveled to the Caribbean and worked for the Hilton Barbados and Hilton Curacao for four years as Director of Finance. David had a heart for missions and specifically Africa. His dream was fulfilled when Franklin Graham’s Samaritans Purse, a Christian organization that works providing humanitarian aide and relief to people through wars, droughts, famines and other disasters, hired him in 2011. David worked in Akuem, South Sudan and Monrovia, Liberia as Program Manager- Finance and was responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating all financial and budgetary aspects of the country office in Liberia for projects such as clean water, schools, refugee camps and orphanages. He loved his work and giving of himself in missions to see others succeed and be blessed. David enjoyed being active and keeping physically fit, serving his church through music and as sound technician. He was a man of integrity, a leader and took a genuine interest in the people he met. He loved God with all his heart and desired to serve Him in every way possible, sharing that love with those around him at all times.
