Walter Oake, 83 years of age, of Amherst, passed away on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre.
Born in Sydney, N.S. he was a son of the late Walter & Hilda (Clarke) Oakes.
He was a loving father and grandfather.
Walter will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Frances MacAulay; children, Scott (Anne) of Winnipeg, Man., Judy Buckingham (John) of St. John's Nfld., Stuart (Ann) of Ottawa, Ont., daughter-in-law, Jo Anne, Amherst; grandchildren, Nick, Robbie, Darcy, Ryan, Sandy, Katie, Steven, Matthew; sister, Mildred Dean of Sydney.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sons, Bruce, Bradley and a grandson, Bruce.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, N.S. No visitation by request. A memorial service to be held at a later date.
