Joan Blair

BLAIR, Joan Stewart – 85, North River, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, January 7, 2014, at The Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro. Born March 29, 1928, in Upper Stewiacke, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Emma (Henry) Butcher. Joan was a member of Trinity United Church, Onslow, where she was a member of the UCW for over 50 years, sang in the choir and read scripture for church services. An avid traveler, she and Chester explored many parts of the world and especially enjoyed their trip from the United States to Canada in a motor home. She enjoyed reading, knitting, needlepoint, loved animals and in earlier years played piano. Joan is survived by her loving husband, Chester Everett Blair; daughter, Barbara (Chris) Roberts, Spring Bay, Ontario; son, Peter Blair, North River; brother, Stanley (Chris) Butcher, Vancouver; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Doug (Lois) Butcher. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Roya Murray, Dr. Michael Murray, VON Homecare, and the nursing staff at Colchester East Hants Health Centre and The Mira. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014, Reverend Glenn MacLean officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment will be held in Watson Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Joan’s memory to Multiple Sclerosis Society or Trinity United Church are welcomed.
