Florence Gillard
GILLARD, Florence – 86, Bible Hill, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born February 10, 1927, in London, England, she was a daughter of the late Dan and Helen Kimpton. Florence and her husband Bill immigrated to Montreal from England in 1949 and when Bill retired in 1987, they moved to Truro. They enjoyed their cottage in Maidstone Lake, Vermont, where they enjoyed many special family times. Florence was a loving wife and mother who worked hard raising their family. She was an accomplished, self-taught seamstress and also enjoyed needlepoint and knitting. Many family and friends will treasure the sweaters, mittens and pictures she made for them. An avid reader, she loved a good suspense novel along with a cup of tea or glass of sherry. Florence is survived by her daughter, Janet (Keith) Cheyne, Bible Hill; son, John (Concetta) Gillard, Fort McMurray, Alberta; grandchildren, Scott (Kama) Cheyne, Andrew (Carol) Cheyne, Amanda (Brian) Babineau, Christina (Adam) Firth, Jennifer Gillard, Jason Gillard, Laura Gillard, Robert Gillard; great grandchildren, Clara and Dean Cheyne, Tristan and Adele Cheyne, Lily and Leah Babineau; sisters, Doris “Dot” and Beatrice “Bet”, both of England. Along with her parents, Florence was predeceased by her husband, William George Henry “Bill” Gillard (2012). Special thanks are extended to the doctors and nursing staff at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, especially in the Emergency Room, E Wing and Palliative Care Unit and to Colchester East Hants Hospice Society.
