It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden passing of James Raymond Ivey, age 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at his home.
Born in Sydney Mines, Jim was the son of the late George and Elizabeth (Costello) Ivey.
He worked for many years in the United States as a truck driver.
James was a member of Holy Family parish, Sydney Mines. He was also a member of Fr. William Keily Council, Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 19.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean (Maxwell) Ivey; his sons, Bruce Ivey, Shenacadie, George Ivey, Millville, James (Tracey) Ivey, Sydney Mines; his daughters, Elizabeth 'Betty Jean' Ivey, British Columbia, Corinne Ivey (Gerald Pearcey), North Sydney, his 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; his brothers, Bert, Sydney Mines, Ronnie (Claudia), North Sydney; and sister, Jean (Harvey) MacArthur, Truro; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan Maxwell, Sydney Mines, Bob (Ann) Maxwell, New Glasgow, Jack (Raye) Maxwell, Sydney Mines, Peggy (Martin) MacIsaac, North Sydney, Russell Crews, North Sydney, Colleen Maxwell, Ontario, and Joan Ivey, New Brunswick; also several nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by a daughter, Sharon and a son, Gordon, a sister, Valda Nugent, brothers, Ralph (Betty) and George Ivey, sisters-in-law, Janet (John) Snow, Wilma Crews, Carmie Ivey, brother-in-law, Gordon Maxwell.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass for James will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. J.J. MacDonald officiating. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney, at a later date.
