September 12, 1998 - March 14, 2008. It is with broken hearts that we tell you of the passing of our older daughter, Claire. Claire died peacefully at the Janeway Child Health Centre. Leaving to mourn her death and celebrate her nine years are her parents: David Smith and Raeline McGrath, little sis' Julia-Ling, Nanny and Poppy (Hubert and Rose McGrath) of Patrick's Cove, Granny (Anna, wife of the late Ken Smith of Coquitlam B.C.), Auntie Karen and Uncle Michel, Auntie Laura and Uncle Jeff, Uncle Don, many cousins and other relatives of the Smith, McGrath, Coffey and Kolarcik families. Also left with saddened hearts and great memories is Claire's extended family: Eileen and Brian Mulcahy, and their daughters Katie, Caroline and Jane. Claire Bear has touched the hearts of many over these short years. She will be missed by her present and former special buddies, Katie Mulcahy, Allison Sturge and Melissa Bruce, the staff and students at Macdonald Drive Elementary School, her friends at Lester's Farm, Rainbow Riders, and at various other locations around St. John's. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, with visitation beginning Saturday March 15 from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday March 16 from 10 -12 noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to take place from St. Paul's Catholic Church, Newfoundland Drive, at a time to be announced.
